Dyfed Powys Police has welcomed the news that the Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Llanelli Town is to be re-established.

A spokesman said: “This service allows the police to work in partnership with the communities it serves to tackle problems of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour and achieve confident, safe and secure neighbourhoods.

“The Neighbourhood Watch allows all citizens to influence community safety priorities for their individual communities and helps us deliver local answers to address local concerns. We look forward to working closely with the group in the coming months.”

Llanelli Neighbourhood Watch 2010 - Press Release

Friday 29th January saw the start of what is hoped to be a new and fruitful relationship with our local policing teams, a fresh initiative to take the safety for communities message and distribute across the wards of Llanelli with the ultimate aim of making our streets, parks, homes and public areas less vulnerable to unsocial activities. Let's hope that success is measured by a better quality of life in all the wards that the Neighbourhood Policing Team covers.

The aim of the new scheme is to help, provide advice and support the residents of the areas covered by the scheme via presentations and community events. This is planned by visiting schools and holding public meetings within the various wards to spread the message that crime in its many guises is antisocial and the need to protect residents’ material things and safety is important.

There are plans to have road shows where bicycles can be coded with the postcode of the owner, the Bobby Van scheme to install safety chains and viewers in front doors is something that is still available, the main theme is to involve local people in the scheme so that the eyes and ears of our local residents become part of the neighbourhood policing teams.

Neighbourhood Watch 2010 has an updated website and many communication tools available to spread the message that in this area anti social behaviour will not be tolerated and hopefully teamwork from all the interested parties will go some way to making Llanelli & surrounding areas a safe and anti ASB community. We as a team hope that the wards of Llanelli will embrace this new start and would welcome any ideas and support that residents think can be beneficial to all concerned
